EDINBURGH'S municipal passenger transport department now has more buses than staff, and the full fleet cannot be manned at the -week-end. Mr. W. M. Little, general manager, told the civic amenities committee last Week.
During the summer season 165,000 passengers were carried On tours, con)pared with 98,000 in 1948. s
Mr. Little also stated that the increase in the price -of fuel would cost the department £10,000 a year... Last year the undertaking incurred oelosa of over £12,000 on the buses. The new impost will probably involve an increase in fares.
Glasgow . estimates that itsbus operating costs will 'rise by f1-3,000 a year due to the higher price of fuel.
