the Hawk has to sympathise with the folk at Gateway's distribution depot at Huntingdon, whose big day was rather more memorable than they would have wished.
First, chair of the Huntingdon district, Ruth Mills, got stuck when her heel sank into the warehouse floor. She finally released herself by removing her shoe before her speech.
The depot was opened by a lorry breaking a ribbon over the warehouse entrance instead of the traditional scissors method — good idea. Unfortunately, when the tape finally broke, it got well and truly lodged in the grille and it took quite a bit of huffing and puffing before it was freed.
