Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Remedial action is called for under the voluntary code of practice whereby manufacturers' recall vehicles are reported to the Department of Transport

• Bulletin Number 28 in Vehicle Safety Recalls from the Department of Transport Vehicle Inspectorate Executive Agency details the recalls launched during the second half of 1988.

Owners of vehicles subject to a Code of Practice Safety Recall are contacted by manufacturers or importers using their own or DVLC records. However, on some occasions notification is not received because the recall coincides with a change of ownership or address. If this may have happened contact the Recall Information Point, SMMT; tel 01-235 7000.

Secondly, as co-sponsor of the Code of Practice the Department of Transport may be contacted: DTp, Vehicle Inspectorate 5, Room 1/01, Berkeley House, Croydon Street, Bristol BSS ODA; tel 0272 218400.
