THE GEEST group has replaced 22 of its 110-strong Crane Fruehauf semi-trailer fleet with full temperature control vans to meet the demands of a mixed workload distributing fruit and vegetables.
Specialised trunking of "green state" bananas calls for a constant temperature, within one degree of 14 degrees C, satisfied in the past by Crane Fruehauf which engineered a complex heating system of recessed ducting and underslung heaters.
Fleet engineer Bill Prosser describes the latest specification as having improved aerodynamics thanks to the tapered box design. The rear end of the trailer is 20mm (8in) smaller than the front bulkhead.
