TWO TYRE manufacturers have announced senior appointments.

The Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Company has named Lou Prete as the new plant manager at the company's Wolverhampton factory. He succeeds John Floyd who was recently promoted to production director.

Mr Prete, an American, joined Goodyear's parent company in Ohio in 1952. After several years with the subsidiary company KellySpringfield, he came to Wolverhampton last year as production manager.

Greg Wand is Dunlop's new director of marketing for European tyre operations. He succeeds Roy Smith, who has retired.

Mr Wand first joined Dunlop in 1953 and has served the company in Sweden, Ceylon, Iran and Pakistan before coming to the tyre division headquarters at Birmingham.

The Freight Transport Association has appointed two new commercial vehicle inspection engineers.

Laurence Bradley moves to the FTA from a construction company where he was a mechanical superintendent in Saudi Arabia. His area of responsibility is Uxbridge and North West London.

The other new recruit to the FTA's 111-strong team of inspectors is Colin Martin. He was formerly with AEC and his new area is South West and West London and North Surrey.

Mr Martin and Mr Bradley, along with their 109 colleagues, carry out more than 2,500 commercial vehicle inspections each week, examining both new and used vehicles.

They were present at the recent Brighton Coach Rally inspecting competing coaches for safety and roadworthiness.

MAN-VW has two new promotional co-ordinators.

David Llewellyn has responsibility for the southern half of the country, while Peter Richardson is looking after the North. Both men will be under the direction of publicity promotions manager Roy Mullins and will be in touch with the dealer network.

Mr Llewellyn was previously with Honda (UK) but Mr Richardson is new to the commercial vehicle industry. Ronald Alexander, managing director of Scottish bodybuilders Walter Alexander, has been invited to become a member of the British Institute of Management.

He is among 30 other people who are new fellows of the Institute, a status achieved by invitation only. The main qualification for fellowship is eminent achievement in management or administration.

Norman Webster is Leicester City Transport's Bus Driver of the Year.

Mr Webster, who has been with LCT for eight years, beat nearly 40 of his colleagues to win the award last weekend at Leicester's Abbey Park Road garage. He qualifies for the Divisional Final of Bus Driver of the Year in June.

Leicester City Transport's Conductor of the Year award went to N. N. Hindocha, who has been with LCT for siix years.
