A WIDE range of management information will be available to Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive when it installs a new computer system.
A large DEC 11/70 computer with TRAX COBOL by Gamma Associates of Nottingham will be installed this month, and will cope immediately with a series of Greater Manchester's projects.
Among immediate applications are bus scheduling, bus timetabling, bus control, passenger enquiry services, and a series of management information systems.
A terminal network being supplied by Gamma is being designed to give all of Greater Manchester's operational bases and offices access to the computer's database.
Greater Manchester spokesman said: "We picked Gamma Associates as the system supplier as we felt they were the only system house capable of supporting the TRAX system we needed in our timescale."
The system has been proven in many forms of business, including cash and carry warehousing, accounting, motor trading, and retail stock controlling.
