Low road

CITYBUS has turned its back on double-deckers. Managing director Werner Heubeck said last week : "In modern economic conditions the high capital and maintenance costs of the double-decker bus can no longer be accepted."

He was speaking on the introduction of the first of an order for over 300 Bristol REs for Citybus and Ulsterbus. Those for service in Belfast have 32 seats and room for 50 standees.

Quiet Fleetline

THE first "quiet Fleetline" for London Transport is now being bodied at Park Royal and should be in service in about 10 weeks.

Speedbus demo

TAXI drivers protesting about London Transport's speedbus plans brought central London to a halt last week.

They claim that the exclusive bus lanes envisaged for speedbus will divert other traffic to unsuitable roads. Other buses will also use the lanes and the taxi drivers claim this will delay the speedbus and negate the object of the experiment.

Red Dragon

NATIONAL Travel (South West) started its Red Dragon Swansea-London service last week. The fastest run takes only five hours five minutes at a cost of £4.45 single, £4.90 day return. There are seven departures a day from Swansea and two from Cardiff.

B15 starts work

THE prototype Leyland B15 double-decker now with London Transport for evaluation in service started work on route 24 from Hampstead to Pimlico last week.
