Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new heating and ventilation system which, it is claimed, will greatly add to the comfort of bus passengers, has been evolved by engineers of the South Wales Transport Co. Ltd. Work on the new system was conducted under the control of Mr. Peter Wood, chief engineer of the company, on a double-deck bus over a period of five years, and is incorporated in new buses now being delivered.

The new system is aimed at defeating the stuffy atmosphere or lack of heat altogether in winter, together with condensation and stale air problems. Six fans are used two for extraction of air, two for heating and two for supplementary ventilation. When all fans are operating, air in the vehicle is changed 40 times an hour Or once every one-and-a-half minutes.

In winter, fans draw air out above the fixed windows while the heater fans inject warm air at floor level. In hot conditions in summer, the extractors continue to take out the stale air, while cool air is fed into the saloon at floor or roof level. The system is thermostatically controlled at 65deg F.
