• The driver of a Northern General coach died and two of his passengers were seriously injured in a fire at the Belmont Hotel, Leicester, at the weekend. The coach had made a scheduled overnight stop on the return journey from an extended tour to Devon.
Mr. Jack White, 40, of Low Fell, Gateshead, had been promoted to coach driving in time for the 1969 season. He was taken ill after his first extended tour, but resumed work in time for what proved to be a fatal second tour.
