Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The FTA recently told the MoT that goods vehicle operators should be given greater flexibility in sending applications for goods vehicles tests to the Swansea booking centre.

The removal of 14 day applications means that applications must be sent one month before the date required and not more than three months before the last day by which the vehicle is required to be submitted. This leaves a maximum period of two months over which an operator may spread his vehicles. The FTA says there is no real reason why operators could not send in applications earlier than suggested and the application period extended so that operators can apply up to four months before the last day for submission.

The FTA said it disagreed with the proposal not to record the operator's name and address on the test certificate. This would overcome any problem should a certificate become mislaid as it would enable it to be restored to its owner without a complicated check.

Another suggestion was tor photostat copies of the plating and testing certificates to be sufficient for production at testing stations as many hauliers keep the original copies at a central point for tax purposes.

The FTA also wants clarification regarding trailer test dates and retesting arrangements.
