QHEFFIELD area of the Road Haul0.J age Association has asked the local medical officer of health to receive a deputation about the carriage of meat in the city. During rationing, local hauliers were required to fit hygienic containers to their vehicles and they still have to do so.

Now that there is decontrol, it is claimed that wholesalers and butchers are not compelled to observe the same standard as hauliers and can use open vehicles if they Wish.

The R.H.A. want the same conditions to apply to all hauliers. Several operators have sold their containers and are confining themselves to ordinary haulage because it was impossible to obtain sufficient business.

T.U.C. AND B.T.C. FINANCES

THE general Council of the Trades Union Congress are to ask the unions concerned for suggestions on how to improve the financial position of the British Transport Commission, The T.U.C. have in mind increases in railway goods rates, a reduction in the tax on heavy oils, a Government interest-free loan for railway modernization, and a payment to the B.T.C. to cover losses on railway lines kept open because of their strategic value.

WHIT LICENCE CONCESSION?

AS Whit Saturday falls on May 28, the Minister of Transport is being asked to provide that part-year licences may be taken out as from the previous day, on payment of a small fee, instead of having to license a vehicle for a whole month. This concession has been granted in past years.
