CM 's CAMPAIGN for better truck parking facilities has met with a positive response, with MPs from all parties promising to take action or pressure the government.

CM editor Andy Salter wrote to the government and key political contacts warning that unless something is done to improve parking more people will die, more trucks will be stolen, more operators will leave the industry:and fewer young people will enter road transport.

Transport minister David Jamieson has replied that over the past year MSA operators have tried to improve facilities and security. But he adds that his officials are looking at proposals for a joint pilot scheme between the DfT, the industry and truckstop operators to address the needs of truck drivers off the motorway network.

Former Tory shadow transport minister Tim Collins pledges the Conservative party to raising awareness of the issue to ensure the competitiveness of the UK haulage industry. LibDem shadow transport secretary John Thurso also believes this issue should be given parliamentary attention.
