The -L.C.C. new contract for oil fuel has gone to the Bowring Petroleum Co., Ltd., and that of the Metropolitan Asylums Board for petrol to Carless. Cape] and Leonard, Ltd.

The Indian Railless Traction Co.. Ltd., with an authorized capital of 2.5250 (5000 preference shares of £1 each, and 5000 ordinary shares of Is. each), is a recent registration by Jordan and Sons, Ltd.

The Prussian military authorities are as keen as any of the motorbus companies on the encouragement of benzole, and 14 entries have been received for the benzole-carburetter competition which, in order to determine the recipients of prizes which have been offered by the Prussian is to be held about two weeks hence, The City of London motor-ambulance service will now have a parallel in the London boroughs. The M.A.B. will spend £18,680 on acquiring 25 electric ambulances (E500 each), and on charging apparatus for 18 depots. Eleven new depots are to be built. The annual expenditure will be £17,860. Numerous eall-pillars are to be installed. The L.C.C. will undoubtedly give its formal approval. c4 The total of licensed motorbuses being operated on th:e London streets on the :30th of last month was 3363. This shows an increase of 205 as against the preceding month.

The receipts of the National Steam. Car Co., Ltd., for the nine days ended 30th November, 1913, were E4896. This shows an increase of £2275 over the corresponding period of last year.

The receipts of the Tramways (M.E.T.) Omnibus Co., Ltd., for the week ended 22nd November, 1913, were £8166, and for the Gearless Omnibus Co., Ltd., £474. These show a decrease of El for each company as against the previous week.

A Conductor Driving.

Another case of unauthorized driving by a conductor came before Mr. Justice Atkin and a Common jury, in the King's Bench Division, on the 26thnit. The plaintiff failed to recover damages, by reason of the fact that, although the driver was on the vehicle at tha time, the claimant had failed to give any evidence to show that the driver in fact retained control, or of any circumstances which would impose a liability on the defendant company (Thos. Tilling, Ltd.) in view of the decision in Beard v. London General Omnibus Co. (2 Q.B. 530 of 1900). There had been a deliberate delegation of duty by the driver, for which he had no authority. Edinburgh Tramways Committee wants tenders for six motorbuses.

Bridlington Town Council has instructed its Watch Committee to make inquiries as to the cost of a motor fire-engine.

Padiham U.D.C. has instructed its surveyor to obtain particula,ra and estimates of the price of a motor fire-engine.

• Dartford U.D.C. has granted two motorbus licences each to the Gravesend and Nortinfleet Tramways, Ltd., and Mr. W. P. Allen.

" The Leeds Mercury" states that the Golcar U.D.C. will take a vote of its ratepayers on the'question of a motorbus scheme for the township Municipal Rollers.

Amongst recent roller orders received by Thomas Green and Son, Ltd., we may instance a. special machine supplied to the British W. 0, for the flying grounds at Uphaven. Only last week a repeat order was received for a .similar model. Rollers have also been supplied by this company to many of the leading corporations in England, and to a great number of foreign destination. This type of machine, in its latest form, is illusrated in the pages preceding the present one.

At Reading.

We regret that members of our staff had recently to decline the invitation to read a paper at Reading, before the local Chamber of Cornmerce, on the subject of motorbuses, and to take part in a controversy respecting that system of transport compared with -0(1114,buses. We had accepted this invitation for a date which proved to clash with the re-cent Reading election, and pressure of work in connection with the Overseni Annual prevented our re-aeCepting. -The matter -was, therefore, dealt with by the Secretary of the Imperial Motor Transport Council.
