They still have most of their original parts working and only one of the Gardner 6LX1i 180 engines has been replaced. "There's not much you can do to damage them," says company boss John Chippendale. They each travel an average of 120,675km annually, and are normally used to carry salt from Cheshire to Worcester, and coal from Maryport to the Lake District.
