• A lorry driver did not know he wa carrying an unexploded mine with a load o top soil from Birmingham to Walsall, Staffs
The mine was discovered on Mi northbound embankment near Bentley, b■ workmen employed by Birminghan contractor Mr William Connors who said "We must have shifted it about two week: ago. We have taken about 120 lorry load; of top soil from a building site it Handsworth to the motorway site — ant the mine must have been in one of them"
After the discovery, police closed e section of the motorway while the mine wa: exploded by Army bomb disposal experts.
