• A Government spokesman last week resisted demands that PTAs should not be set up in Scotland in the face of local opposition.
Leading the opposition was Mr. Edward Taylor (Tory, Cathcart) who asked for a specific pledge concerning Glasgow. He warned that a PTA in the Glasgow area would mean a substantial increase in rates, adding to existing hardship. He was backed by Mr. Gordon Campbell (Tory, Moray and Nairn) who was concerned about the whole of Scotland.
Mr. Bruce Milian, Under-Secretary of State at the Scottish Office, replied that the Scottish Secretary had been having discussions with all the Glasgow interests concerned. He added that Glasgow was the only area under active consideration for a PTA at the moment.
