• A dial gauge that records the pressure in the hydraulic rams of a tipping gear is incorporated in a device, evolved by Milshaw Hydraulics Ltd., Bradford, which gives an indication of the load carried. Milshaw Hydraulics is a member of the Butterfield group of companies.
The dial is calibrated to give a reading of load as well as pressure and is claimed to be accurate to within 2cwt if the load is evenly distributed. While it is still necessary to use a weighbridge for a weight check, the indicat or's use can assist in providing correct weight distribution after the machine has been weighed.
To ensure even distribution, the loaded body is tipped to a height of about 6in. to clear the chassis and held in this position by the control valve. Pressing a button valve in the cab gives a pressure reading on the dial which also has a maximum-load mark. When the reading and mark correspond the load is evenly distributed.
