• Hexham Rural District Council, Northumberland, has agreed to subsidize a bus service between Bellingham and Newcastle upon Tyne to the extent of 1100 for a six-month period. Tyne Valley Coaches Ltd. was threatening to close the route, said to be losing 1570 a year. Bellingham RDC and Castle Ward RDC are expected to provide subsidies of E100 and £50 respectively. Hexham RDC is also discussing the position of Tyne Valley's uneconomic services to Newbrough and Haydon Bridge.
