• The truck market continues to show slow signs of recovery.

Sales of trucks and artics of 3.5 tonnes and above for the first 20 days of August were up by 3.6% over the same period last year.

Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders figures also show that tractive unit sales have increased 19%, and in the sector above 15 tonnes registrations have risen 7%.

But eight and six-wheeler sales are still declining, reflecting the disastrous state of the construction industry.
