cab, the production of which was announced in The Commercial Motor on August 6, will be powered by the Ford Consul engine, with hydraulically operated clutch and the Consul gearbox. The chassis is designed to take an oil engine, if specified.
A steering-column gear-change system and hydraulically operated brakes are used in this model, the first postwar taxicab to be manufactured by Beardmore Motors, Ltd., 167 Great Portland Street, London, W.I.
Among the features incorporated to simplify cleaning and servicing are pendant pedals for clutch and brake operation, which are hung from the bulkhead. This also avoids the need for floor slots and the difficulty of sealing them against noise, draught and fumes.
Several modern develop ments found extensively in private cars are claimed to be embodied in a taxicab for the first time. These will be announced at the Commercial Motor Show, where two versions, a standard and a de-luxe model, will be on view.
