CLAIMS that vehicles engage on door-to-door selling must b fitted with tachographs hay been dropped by Merseysid Police.
Summonses had been issue charging Walls Meat Co Ltd an one of its drivers with operatin a vehicle not equipped with tachograph. However, the dec sion to withdraw followed tw recent cases in which othE operators were acquitted c similar charges.
Both Chorley Magistrates an Ormskirk Magistrates accepte — in the cases of Matteson Meats Ltd, and Auguste an Noel Ltd respectively — defenc submissions that the vehicle were exempt from the EEC Ft( gulations relating to specialise vehicles on door-to-door sellinc (CM, September 5). In bot cases costs were awarde against the Police.
