Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

rtA LONG-WHEELBASE version of the Rutland Condor 7-8-tonner, powered by a Meadows 4DC-330 fourcylindered oil engine, has recently been added to the range of vehicles being produced by Motor Traction, Ltd., Teevan Read, Croydon. The Meadows unit has an output of 85 b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m., at which speed it produces a torque of 239 lb.-ft.

With the exception of the power unit. the chassis specification closely follows that of the Eagle chassis in having a 14-in, single-plate clutch, five-speed overdrive gearbox, and a hypoid-gear rear axle.

The wheelbase of this model is 15 ft. 6 ins., and in place of the normal two-piece propeller shaft, one having three components, with two midway bearings, is used. There are four universal joints in the transmission, all being of the Layrub ultra-heavpduty type.

330 Lockheed hydraulically operated two-leading-shoe brakes have vacuum assistance, the Clayton Dewandre vacuum unit being secured to the outside of the right-hand frame member. Other items in the specification include semi-elliptic springs, cam-and-roller steering gear and a 24-volt electrical system.

The model inspected by "The Commercial Motor" has a Bowyer threeseat cab with the two passenger seats arranged one in front of the other. Access to either is easy, as each seat compartment is provided with its own door. The centre portion of the cab is taken up by the engine cowling, which forms a base for mounting the speedometer and the lighting and starting switches.

In its long-wheelbase form, the Condor weighs 3 tons.,13 cwt. 2 qrs., complete with a coachbuilt cab. It is to be seen during the period of the Commercial Motor Show at the Reunion Garage, Warwick Road, London, S.W, from where demonstration runs are being given.
