The British Fire Prevention Committee has been conducting an important series of tests with regard to the extinction of petrol fires with chemical foam. A large number of Government officials attended the demonstrations. It is stated that the tests were satisfactory, but the detailed report will not be available for about six weeks.

Eccles to Approach John Morris, The Watch Committee of Eccles TX'. has decided to invite tenders for a four-cylinder petrol-driven motor fire-engine with first-aid equipment and fire-escape combined. The Committee has also approved of a recommendation to the effect that a general specification of the above be obtained from John Morris and Sons on the understanding that the Committee does not bind itself to purchase an engine of any special make.

A Useful Three-wheeler.

A Girling pareelcar chassis was lately observed on duty, outside the Wood Green Station, with a 30 ft. ladder, hose, chemical extin guishers, etc., in position. The whole turn-out looked most businesslike. These machines are made by the Girling Motor Manufacturing Co., of Grosvenor Works, Bedford, and firemasters will do well to keep an eye on them. They should prove quite useful as " nippy " means of conveyance, at high speed and inexpensive rates. A New Contmer-Simonis.

We are enabled to illustrate the rear portion of the chassis of an interesting new Commer Car-Simonis motor fire-pump which has been built for delivery to Palmerston, New Zealand. The capacity of the multi-stage pump is 350 to 500 gallons. An interesting feature of this new machine is the method which has been adopted to secure a direct drive from engine to pumpshaft. The front of the chassis has been swept up in order to secure higher alignment tor toe engine. The indirect drive is through to the road wheels, it being obviously most important. to secure maximum transmission efficiency to the pump.

Willesden and Rochdale have just taken delivery of new " Hatneld " 60 h.p. engines. The pumps, which are of the reciprocating type, are designed to deliver 350 to 400 g.p.m.

The L.G.B. has asked the Driffield Rural District Council to supply further information with regard to the equipment of the motor fireengine moon which it is proposing to spend 2900.

The Fire Brigade Committee of the Waltha,mstow U.D.C. has decided to provide a second appliance in the shape of a petrol-driven fire engine, combining pump, fire escape, tender and first-aid.

Warrington Town Council has sent a sub-committee, together with the Borough Surveyor and the Superintendent of its brigade, to visit St. Helens and Birkenhead, for the purpose of inspecting the motor fire-engines in use there.

Paisley Corporation's new Halley motor fire-engine has now been formally accepted. A test was conducted, and the engine gave quite a good account of itself. The machine in question is a sixcylinder Vehicle with four speeds forward. The engine develops 70 h.p.. and has a road speed up to 40 m.p.h.
