DIABETICS TREATING their condition with insulin will inally be able to apply for an HGV driving licence from 15 November, according to the DVLA. The long-awaited announcement means people who lost their licence after the law changed in 1990 can now attempt to win it back, pending the results of a medical assessment. It also opens the doors for diabetics who had not considered becoming an HGV driver to do so.

The DVLA says: “Regulations were laid before Parliament on 24 October. In line with Parliamentary procedure, they will be subject to scrutiny for 21 days. The Regulations will come into force on 15 November.
