Mike Dinnage has joined York Rentals as area sales manager for its new branch at Avonmouth. Mr Dinnage was. previously with Dutton Forshaw as vehicle hire manager.

Eddie Farley, previously of DAF Trucks, has joined S. Jones (Garages), the main ERF distributor in Walsall, as general manager. He has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the distributorship which covers the West Midlands, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

The Road Haulage Association has elected Jim Alliston to life membership in recognition of his long and dedicated service to the road-haulage industry. Mr Alliston, who is a past chairman of the International Group at the RHA, received his award and certificate of life membership at the Road Transport Show in Brighton last weekend.

Chloride Industrial Batteries have appointed Reg Stacey as sales manager for national motive-power accounts. Mr Stacey joined the Chloride Group as a sales engineer in 1962, rising to become regional sales manager for the South East before this new appointment.

The newly created post of head of manager training and development at Dunlop's UK Tyre Division has gone to David Steel. He was formerly manpower development manager with Plessey Telecommunications. He is based at Fort Dunlop in Birmingham.

Obituaries

We record with regret the deaths of James Henry Ewer and Bob Hiam.

James Henry Ewer was son of George Ewer, founder of the George Ewer Group. James Henry took the company into

coaching business in the 1930s, under the fleet name of Grey Green, one of the country's leading coach operators. James Henry handed over the chairmanship of the George Ewer Group in 1971, but still took an active interest until his death last week at the age of 83.

Bob Hiam was sales director, replacement, for Dunlop's UK Tyre Division, retiring in 1 9 6 7 He had joined the company in 1905 as a salesman. Mr Hiam was also president of the Tyre Manufacturer's Conference from 1956 until his retirement.
