Insurance extended

COACH INSURANCE broker Chapman Stevens has extended its Continental accident/breakdown insurance cover to the United Kingdom.

The scheme, which is underwritten by Lloyds, provides an indemnity of up to £1000 to cover the cost of alternative transport, passengers' accommodation, and the repair and recovery of a disabled coach.

It also meets the costs involved where a driver dies, is taken ill, or is injured.

NATIONAL BUS subsidiary Midland Red wants to increase its fares in January and proposes increases ranging from lp to 8p.

It wants to raise revenue by 12 to 13 per cent to offset inflation, and has lodged its application with the Traffic Commissioners.

The company last raised its fares in August, but that was simply to meet increased fuel charges and did not seek to eliminate financial deficits.

SEMPERIT has launched two High-Speed Eurosteel tyres which are aimed particularly at coach operators.

The 11R22.5L and 12R22.5L are labelled as being suitable for speeds of up to 120km/h (75 mph).
