Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

P. Ashwood, of Alpine Refrigerated Deliveries, has one of the lightest right feet in the business.

Over a period of twenty consecutive working days with a van semi-trailer fully laden for at least half its operation time, he recorded 11.56mpg with a Volvo F10 tractive unit. For his pains he received a Volvo 343 car worth £3,350, a Continental holiday for two and a portable black and white television set.

He was competing in the Volvo F10 economy drive in which some other excellent consumption figures were returned.

But the only other man to achieve more than lOmpg was D. Quelch, of Dawsonfreight, Leighton Buzzard, who returned 10.11mpg with a tanker, also fully laden for 50 per cent or more of its operational time. His reward was similar to Ashwood's but without the car.

The prize-winning competitors were honoured at Volvo's now-traditional night out at the Talk of the Town in London on the opening day of the Motor Show.
