ALLEN-LIVERSIDGE, LTD.

THIS company have lately become the sole concessionnaires for the sale of the well-known E.C.L. cast-aluminium lamps, of both electric and -acetylen4 types, including the popular self-contained lamp in which lamp and generator are combined in a unit. These, together with A.L cast-aluminium lamps, provide a useful range of lighting appara.tus from which the user has a wide choice.

Both the A-L and the E.C.L. lamps are suitable for use either with a generator or with dissolved acetylene in cylinders, and examples of each type are exhibited on the company's stand, where A-IA dual-purpose headlamps will also he on view. The last-named are so designed that each _lamp is suitable, with a slight modification, for either electric or acetylene lighting. This particular lamp is also fitted with, the A-L focus headlight attachment as standard, of which demonstrations can be arranged on the stand.

ANGLO-AMERICAN OIL CO., LTD.

AS usual, the stand of the AngloAmerican Oil Co., Ltd., contains much of interest to all users of motor spirit. The Golden Pump is well to the fore, and both the one-gallon and five-gallon models can be relied upon implicitly to deliver the exact amount of apirit required. Another interesting accessory to be seen is the Depth O'Meter, which is a simple device enabling the user of a fuel pump to ascertain exactly how much spirit is contained in the underground tank.

All those who handle oil in large quantities should give their attention to the quart lubricating-oil barrel outfit which is shown, for it is an excellent labour-saving appliance.

ANGUS AND CO., LTD. Stand 223 NTEWCOMERS ty the exhibition, .111 this company—who are now operating three separate factories—have assembled several items of interest to the motor trade, amongst which Telemite brake lining will command re spect, This is produced on the company's patented looms and possesses a smooth and regular construction which ensures maximum surface contact with the brake drum. Examples of Dorite flexible universal joints are available for all makes of vehicle, and are shown alongside leather fan belts, clutch linings, etc.

white-bronze specialities consisting of big-end • connecting-rod bearings, crankshaft bearings, gudgeon pin bushes, floating wheel bushes, worm wheels and all kinds of bushes and bearings and other wearing parts of motor chassis,' machined ready for fitting, and as castings only, occupy, the major portion of this company's stand. Certain space is also given over to a display of bushes and bearings die-cast in the company's patent " Motor " white bronze and bronze shells lined-up ready for fitting, as well as white-bronze in 4-lb. ingots and in 1-lb. strips.

WHILST most of the business of Auster, Ltd., is concerned with accessories and parts for touring cars, the company also supply front windshields for commercial models, and on their stand they show a complete range of such accessories for various types of vehicle, these being available in different dimensions. An item of special interest to bodybuilders is the exhibit of hoods and window and body fittings, upon the manufacture of which the cornpany have been engaged for many years.

AUTOMECHANICAL RECTIFIERS, LTD. Stand 60

ON the stand of this company are to be found "Specimens of the AkkEmmar auto-mechanical rectifier, which is for use on Ford chassis: It provides an alternative system of ignition and also utilizes the surplus energy Which is generated. The device can be readily attached to any type of Ford vehict_.. The Akk Emmar battery charger is also to the front ; this is an apparatus for enabling accumulators to be charged without the •use of a dynamo.

MANY of the accessories and.components.of American manufacture for which this company are the sole concessionnaires in' thirl country are exhibited on their stand. They include such well-known products as Timken axles, Borg and Beck clutches, Lavine steering gears, Detroit gearboxes, and Continental engines, all of which are largely used throughout the motor

industry. •

Another component which should come under the notice of visitors to the Show is the Chubb roller universal joint, for it is claimed to overcome certain of the disadvantages attaching to universal joints of the mechanical pattern.

BATTERIES, LTD. Stand 147

THIS company's stand is given over to a display of Nife accumulators, which operate on the nickel-ironalkaline principle. The plates in these cells consist of a rolled-steel frame which supports finely perforated steel pockets in which the active material is contained. The active material of the positive plates is nickel hydroxide, and of the negative plates iron oxide. All the internal parts of the cell are autogenously welded. The cell containers are of steel and these, in conjunction with the all-steel plate construction, result in a very robust cell. Passenger vehicle users should not overlook the special batteries designed for bus lighting.

BECKETT, LAYCOCK AND WATKINSON, LTD. Stand 130

HERE is to be found a very -wide range of fittings which are of particular value to body builders and users of passenger vehicles. Beclawat allweather equipment for chars-a-bancs needs no introduction on our part, for it is widely used. The standard window marketed by the company for saloon buses is shown. as well As balance's, regulators, etc., for lights of various patterns. The cam lock window for buses is worthy of particular note because it enables the maximum

light to be ' obtained. The glass is housed, on its two edges, in light metal channels in the ease of small windows, whilst in these of larger dimensions it is covered entirely-by, a complete frame, to which are secured at their upper ends small catches. .

With the large increase in the number of motor vehicles now on the road, the new bumper introduced for motorcoaches should come under notice.

BRITISH BOCK BEARINGS, LTD.

OO this stand is to be seen a comprehensive range of the company's bearings, together with a stub axle suitable for front-wheel brakes fitted with their bearings. There is also a wormdriven rear axle in which British Bock bearings are used. Both exhibits are in section and show the method of assembly. S. F. BOWSER AND CO. Stand 161 AS suppliers of various types of equipment for the accurate measurement and -supply of motor spirit and lubricating oil, S. F. Bowser and Co., Inc., have achieved a worthy reputation. The company make a comprehensive display with ,their various types of pump, which are built in several sizes and intended for indoor and outdoor use. "In" addition, the company show a wheeled portable tank for petrol and a somewhat similar tank for dealing with lubricating oil.

There are also standard outfits for storing lubricating oil, these being cora"plete with pumps and marketed in 50gallon and 100-gallon sizes, as well as equipment complete with 2-25-galloncapacity tanks, each provided with a quart pump and mounted on a suitable trolley BRAMCO, LTD. Stand 216

F1RST and• foremost on this company's stand is an entirely new model of the Servis recorder, which is much smaller and neater than the model which is superseded, and, moreover, possesses a self-contained lock.

As is usual, the Warford six-speed auxiliary transmission for Ford chassis is prominently displayed, and that this equipment is giving satisfactory service is indicated by the fact that over 30,000 sets have been sold. A new four-speed auxiliary transmission, which , is sold under the same name, is also exhibited. Another new appliance on the stand is the Warford power take-off, which is designed for use with the Warford six-speed equipment.

Most of the accessories and components shown • are applicable to the Ford motor chassis or the Fordson tractor, and one which should attract notice is the Barton water pump, for it enables small communities and business establishments to possess a practical tire-engine at a relatively low cost. The pump is fitted in front of the radiator and can be supplied in various capacities. It is capable of throwing a 75-ft. head of water.

They are also exhibiting Speedwell Crimsangere, which is a lubricant for chains, hubs, gearboxes, etc., posaeersing good clinging properties. It 'is-Conitaiiently put up in collapsable fillies. • The exhibit is completed by several bulk -storage tanks and a (3..1-1, Gale indicator for use with high-speed engines.

B.P. motor spirit and other' products of this company are shown here, the various grades being represented by the packages in which they are marketed. A selection of fuels for various purposes, such as T.V.O. (tractor vaporizing oil) and heavy and light oils for Diesel and semi-Diesel engines, are also arranged on the stand.

BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., LTD. Stand 134 XAGNETOS are largely in eviffidence on this company's stand, although impulse starters, automatic ignition timing devices, Fabroil silent timing gears, etc., are also well to the fore. The company's polar inductor magnetos

are made in four types, all of which are of a new .design incorporating a rotary magnetic field and stationary. armature. The C.E. magneto is made in sizes for 4, 6 and 8-cyliuder engines. The other types embody many of its features, but differ Slightly in construction and in the arrangement of the magnetic circuit. The magnetos with rotating armatures are of tsto patterns, and both are similar in construction. The B.T.H. impulse, starter can be supplied as an integral part of certain typesof the company's magneto.

The company have had'considerable experience in connection with the insurance of all types of motor vehicle which they have

CAPASCO is the trade name under which, the asbestos brake and clutch facings produced .by this company" are sold. The foundation of this particular facing is blue asbestos; or Crocidelite, which is mined in Cape Colony. This is mixed with a carefully calculated proportion of long white asbestos and interwoven with brass wire, the whole being impregnated , with heat-resisting

material. • With the advent of the winter months radiator covers will be largely used, and those of the asbestos kind which are on this stand are worthy of Close inspection.

BROWN BROS., LTD. Stand 172 ALL sorts of accessories and components are staged on the stand 'of this well-established company. Amongst those possessing a special significance for the commercial motor user, we can mention Ferodo friction linings, Whittle belting, Coventry and Hans Renoid chains, Pyrene fire extinguishers,. Parsons twin non-skids and Gabriel snubbers. A most comprehensive exhibit is concluded by a host of such useful devices as horns, grease guns, lamps,' pumps, valve lifters, wheel-pullers and general garage equipment and sundries. Duco is the trade name under which many of the company's accessories are sold.

DAVID BROWN AND SONS (HUDDERSFIELD), -LTD.

ONEalways associates the name of this company with all forms of gearing—and rightly so, for they have been established since 1860 and have had a most extensive experience in the pro

duction of high-efficiency gearing, particularly that of the worm description.

The merits of the DBS patent worm drive are too well known to need elaboration here. It is exhibited as a combination helical and worm drive with the object of showing the tooth action of the worm gear. The exhibit also comprises a selection of worms and worm wheels having the DBS patent form of tooth and thread for use in motor vehicle transmissions, together with hobs of the shank and bored types, and spur and bevel gears, having both straight and spiral teeth, which are suitable for camshafts, pump

APART from showing in the vehicle section of the Exhibition, this wellknown Lincoln company are in occupation of a stand in the accessories and components section, where they have on view examples of the Rubury-Alford and Alder front-wheel brake, for which they are the sole selling agents. These units are supplied complete to many motor vehicle makers. The brake gear is embodied on the axle, the only connections to the chassis being the pull rods.

ROBERT W. COAN. LTD. Stand 165

CALL at this stand if you are interjested in aluminium castings, both sand and die, for the company have had many years' experience in the production of all classes of casting in this material, and their products are widely used in motor vehicle construction. The fittings and components of most interest to our readers include headlamps, chain covers, crankcases and carburetters, although others are on view.

The repair section of the company is represented by a useful series of exhibits indicating the class of work undertaken.

Number-plates are on exhibition in all shapes and conforming in every detail to official requirements, as well as hackney-carriage plates and step mats.

COCKER BROS., LTD. Stand 225 TANDARD laminated springs manufactured by this 'Sheffield company under a patented process in which all the plates are interchangeable are included in the exhibits on their stand. There is also an assortment of spare spring plates, spiral springs and overload springs as well as key steel and steel wire. A collection of fractures of steel from which the company's springs are produced will attract the attention of the metallurgically inclined.

CONNOLLY BROS.' (CURRIERS), LTD. Stand 152

UPHOLSTERY hides suitable for use in all types of public-service vehicle and, in a lesser degree, on goods carrying vehicles,, constitute the main exhibit on this stand. The hides which are shown are in all colours, grains and finishes to suit the most exacting taste. Other leathers used-by motor body builders, such as enamelled hides for hoods, strapping leather and clutch leathers, should not be missed by those interested in such goods.

COOPER, WEBB-JONES AND CO. Stand 63 MISTABLISHED so long ago as

4 1' 1790, this company are showing body fittings for the complete equipment of singleldeck and double-deck buses, motor coaches, lorries, etc. Amongst these are the Jackson patent char-a-banes hood fitting, which continues to be largeL■ used on the open

type coach ; ventilators and ventilator fittings of special patterns, and window devices. The various fittings are, in the main, of outstanding concern to body builders.

COOPER-STEWART ENGINEER ING CO., LTD. Stand. 148

TilIS company's products invariably make an attractive appeal at the heavy vehicle Exhibition, and no ex

ception is likely to occur this year, for their range of exhibits is certainly comprehensive. The Stewart speedometer, in various types, is certain to attract special notice, for it is built for work under arduous conditions.

Other exhibits on the stand include revolution counters, mechanical and electrical horns, bumpers, rear-view mirrors, vacuum-tank parts and a large variety of other useful equipment. Special reference should, perhaps, be made to the Cooper-Stewart car lock, which is a positive protection against theft, and is unique in construction.

CRANKLESS ENGINES, LTD.

Stand 222 visitors to the Show --are 1.12bound to be, drawn to this stand

by reason of the factan eightcylinder Michell crankiess petrol engine, sectionized and in motion,: is to be seen occupying nposition there. The unit is being driven at low speed by an electric motor, which enables the operation and essential features of the engine to be closely followed. A note should be made of the means by which the shaft of the engine is actuated by the pistons through the medium of the Slant and Michell bearing-slippers. The cylinders of this engine have a bore of 84 mm. and a stroke of 89 mm., the cylinder capacity per revolution being 242 cub. ins.; the R.A.C. rating is 35.1 h.p.

COVENTRY CHAIN CO., LTD.

Stand 47 THIS company have had a long association with the commercial vehicle industry, and apart from a range of chains of various types, they-have ou view Cork's spring clip transmission chain. V belts, features of which are their non-slipping and non-stretching properties.

COVENTRY RADIATOR CO., LTD. . Stand 146

CAST aluminium radiators built for use on a variety of well-known makes of commercial vehicle are well arrayed on this stand, and Ford users should not let the special models made for use on their vehicles escape their notice. The company's exhibit is coneluded by a collection of tubes, both brass and copper, in various sections, together with tanks, bonnets and various other parts used throughout the commercial vehicle industry.

CRESSWELL'S ASBESTOS CO., .

LTD. Stand 198

CHEKKO semi-metallic asbestos brake and clutch facings in various forms suitable for motor vehicles of every description figure -`prominently on the stand in the possession of this Bradford company. This friction material is made from Canadian asbestos and is guaranteed by the makers to be free from cotton adulteration. For this reason Messrs. Cresswell feel that they are justified in claiming it to be impossible for Chekko to burn out, since there is nothing in its composition which can burn.

DAVENPORT ACCESSORIES, LTD.

TILEA.GE recorders for all types of .1..V1commercial vehicle, which can be mounted on axle caps or driven from gearboxes and tailshafts form the chief exhibit on this stand. The company are also showing a range of petrol meters, kerbiide tramps, mirrors and other useful accessories,as well as Apex electrical horns, for which the company hold the agency in the south of England. Light van users who like to keep a record of the distances covered by their vehicles should make a point of inspecting the mileage,' recorders which are supplied for use on Ford and Morris 1-tonners.

W. B. DICK AND CO., .

LTD. Stand 54

ILO is the trade name under which the lubricating oils and greases for use on motor vehicles are sold by this company, and they display a wide range of their various grades. Many users experience difficulty in dealing with drums of oil, but they will not be faced with any trouble of this kind if they make use of the lb o drum cradle, which holds the drum at a convenient height from the ground ; examples of it are to be seen on the stand. The dram cradle sells at 1.0s. 6d., which includes cost of carriage.

Those users who are particularly anxious to see that their vehicles are properly attended to in the matter of lubrication should secure one or other of the booklets whichare on the stand, one of which includes a schedule showing the specific grade of oil to ace in all types of vehicle. THE fact that the Dorman engine is used on Teeny popular vehicles on the British market is sufficient in itself to lead many visitors to inspect the range of power units to be seen here.

The actual exhibit comprises two, four and six-cylinder engines, and now that the subsidy scheme is attractingmuch notice many users will undoubtedly closely inspect the J.TJ. model, which meets official requirements. This unit has cylinders with a bore of 95 mm. and a stroke of 140 mm., and is built up as a unit with the four-speed Dorman-Dux gearbox.

Variousill7pes of gearbox, as well as. samples of cast-iron castings made by the company, serve to complete a comprehensive exhibit.

ALEXANDER DUCEHAM AND CO., LTD. Stand 38

WORKING models of the plant used in drilling for oil, and refining it to produce the well-known Adeol New Process motor lubricants constitute the principal features of this stand. They are to be seen in full operation, and certainly afford a good insight into the methods of an industry which is, perhaps, little known in this country. By cutting away the ground beneath the oilfield a formation of oilbearing strata is exposed, and the flow of oil and action of filling serve to produce an effective working model.

Prominence is also being given to various tests for motor lubricants, some being of a spectacular and others of a scientific character. Lubricants which are specially recommended for British light vans, such as the Trojan, Morris or Star, are displayed, as well as various forms of bulk-storage installation.

EAST LONDON RUBBER CO. Stand 154

THIS company handle a wide range of accessories for use on motor vehicles, as well as supplying lathes, stocks and dies and small tools and machinery. Their exhibit is representative of the class of equipment in which they deal.

EQUIPMENT AND ENGINEERING CO. Stand 60a

VISITORS who are interested in bus equipment should on no account miss the items on this stand, for here they will find illuthinated destination indicators, route number indicators, and side-window indieators operated by patent spiral gearing.

Another feature of the exhibit is the self-locking and noiseless, balanced drop window, a sectioned model of which certainly serves to give an idea of the full details of the method of suspension, locking device employed, etc.

D60 Golden Glow headlights also figure prominently on the stand, and these ate provided with reflectors of greenish: yellow tinted glass. Other accessories which should be noted are Simplex jacks, Moseley Float-on-Air cushions, Stopit window nioulding (which, as its name implies, is used for preventing the ingress of water), Webber patent body suspension fittings, ete..

ELECTRIC STEEL CASTINGS CO., LTD. Stand 213 MHIS company display on their stand a range of the Eseo Simplex road wheels for giant pneumatic tyres. The general. construction of this type of wheel can be clearly seen from our illustration, which also affords an. excellent idea of its 'strength. One of the features of this wheel is that it pro vides good facilities for mounting and &mounting the rims and tyres. The company specialize in the manufacture of axle casings, gearboxes and, in fact, steel castings of all descriptions.

A representative display of wheels for leading makes of Continental lorries is also shown, and those who inspect the exhibits in the vehicle section will note that the wheels on certain vehicles shown by the Saurer Co. and by the Swiss Locomotive Works are of this company's manufacture. The fact that such wheels are used on a vehicle of the calibre of the Sa.urer is sufficient proof of their merit.

ENGELBERT AND CO Stand 191

LUBOL motor oils and greases for every make of vehicle, together with various engine, cylinder and gear oils, constitute the chief exhibit here. he company, it is worthy of note, have for over half-a-century been concerned with the supply of lubricants for all purposes.

ELM STREET ENGINEERING WORKS. Stand 204

SUPAPHORD gear equipment as shown at previous • exhibitions occupies a prominent place on the stand of the Elm Street Engineering Co, Ltd., but the company also have their largely adopted extension frame and conversion outfit as applied to the Ford chassis on view, one being a chain-driven adapter for the standard chassis, and the other an extension frame for the ton truck. Both are shown fitted with the Supanhord gear.

EDMUNDS, WALKER AND CO., LTD. Stand 186

AS wholesale agents and contractors for steel balls and ball and roller bearings, this company have a wide range of well-known makes on view, these including those of Hoffmann, Timken, Skefko and Ransome and Marks manufacture. In addition, Brice piston rings, Bramec brake facings, and 'certain classes of machine tools of American make are displayed.

FERODO, LTD. • Stand 192

OF all the various friction materials on the market none is perhaps better known that that which is sold under the name of Ferodo, for material of this make has won considerable popularity and is largely used on light and heavy

commercial vehicles, This year the company's exhibit comprises bonded asbestos facings for brakes and clutches, patent die-pressed segments, fibre linings radially woven for cone elntehes, and adjustable brake shoes for Ford 1-tonners, sheets of bonded asbestos, etc.

For maintaiuing the resiliency of leaf springs, Ferodo interleaving material is recommended, and its value as a means of increasing their effective life is demonstrated by a working model.

F. IL EVE, LTD. Stand 176

IT has been the custom of this company to exhibit their patent universal motor-engine stand at several past Exhibitions, and this year it is again well to the fore on their stand. There is little question that such a stand is a very useful appliance in the repair shop or garage in so far as it enables a power unit to be readily inspected in any desired position. Its use, however, is not confined to engines, for gearboxes, back axles and other components' can be just as readily dealt with. The components can he fixed 5 ins, above or below centres, thus enabling weight to be equalized, and it is noteworthy that the stand can be rotated in eight different positions. Two models of the stand are available, one for 3-tanners being priced at In 10s., and the other for 5-tanners at £17 10s.'

GLACIER METAL CO., LTD.

Stand 141 A DISPLAY of Findlay's motor 21..metal, which is claimed to be specially suitable for metalling the bearings on heavy commercial vehicle power units, is made, on this stand, where a full range of Glacier metal, babbitt metal and other white-metal alloys are in evidence. Commercial vehicle bearings with bronze backs and lined with white metal dlso occupy space.

GLICO PETROLEUM, LTD.

MPTY spirit cans indicating the U4 manner in which the various grades of Glico motor spirit (Carburine Aviation Spirit, Carburine Motor Spirit and Glico Motor Spirit) are supplied, are arranged on this stand, where also are to be found models of the company's portable barrel pumps, road tank wagons and rail tank wagons. Those interested in demonstrations should make their way to this stand at certain periods of the day, when kerbside and portable barrel motor-spirit pumps are being shown in operation.

HADFIELD'S (MERTON), LTD.

C1/AC11-PAINTING specialities are prominent amongst the comprehensive display which is to be seen on this company's stand, their various lines including grey paste surfacer, which is a filling of proved eXcellence under all drying conditions. Silvaline aluminium enamel, Heolin 'body and glaze coats, and a range of 48 artistic tints for motor vehicle painting.

HALL AND HALL. Stand 145

pROMINENT in the range of products of this company is Hallite motor jointing, which is suitable for making joints on every type of vehicle. The jointing is impregnated throughout with graphite, thus making the surface non-adhesive, with the result that if care be exercised when breaking a joint the same washer can be used over again. Other Hallite specialities include flange washers and rotary pump'

packing. In addition, packings for _ Sentinel, Foden and other types of steam wagon are shown.

47. T. HART AND SONS. Stand 59 TT ERE one can inspect a range of lcoloured upholstery leathers suitable for use on all types of passenger and goods vehicle. Enamelled hides for hoods and upholstery hides possessing antique and fancy grains are also on view.

IN America it is the custom for rixany popular commercial motor chassis to be assembled from units produced by specialists, and although in this country this plan is not in favour to any great extent, many motor manufacturers make use of Kirkstall axles in the construction of their machines. Their products have won a deserved reputation in the industry, and their latest types of front and rear axles are In evidence on the above stand. The actual exhibits consist of a front-wheel-brake axle suitable for a chassis carrying a 32-seater bus or coach bekly, another of the same type for smaller passenger vehicles, several worm-driven rear axles for vehicles of various load capacities, and a doublereduction rear axle for low-loading trolley-buses.

Kirkstall axles are drop-forged and supplied in 40-ton carbon steel or alloy steel which, with the one-piece design, gives considerable strength and safety.

Repairs effected to scored cylinders under the Laystall process are also in evidence, and visitors to the stand will have their attention drawn to the fact that the bores of the cylinders are not enlarged by this method, so that the same Pistons can be used.

THE Controlograph is made on the Continent, and the sole concession-mires in this country are the above company, who exhibit the apparatus on their stand. This is claimed to be the only device which gives a combination of three records. The records are contained in a solid water-tight metal .case ; the clock runs for 36 hours, and by a toothed wheel moves a special paper disc showing a dial of 24 hours. The record by transmission is effected by a perforated needle marking a point every furlong, but the record by vibration is entirely independent of this, and thereby one obtains the great advantage that on the same disc, but by a different needle, the running of the vehicle and its stops, according to hour and duration, are recorded even if, and when, the transmission be not in use.

Midgley, who is responsible for the design of M.C.L. equipment, of which a wide range is displayed on the stand of the above company. MANY users believe that the usefulness and range of operation of the Ford ton truck can be increased, without an appreciable difference in running expenses and cost of upkeep, by the use of an auxiliary gear, and one that is simple in construction and application is that sold by Messrs. Miller Bros., who display examples of the gear on their stand, as well as specimens of the Miller master brake, which is also designed for use on Fords. The gear is easily fitted.

ATAKING its bow to the public for _LVJ_the first time, the new patent hubcap odometer shown by Ripaults, Ltd., will certainly catch the eye of many of those users who are concerned with keeping a check on the running of their vehicles for it possesses a number of exclusive features. The instrument is known as the Ohmer odometer and, although it is of simple and strong construction, it is so built that it cannot be tampered with. It simply replaces the existing hub-cap and records up to 100,000 miles, the mileage being added whether the vehicle be moving in the forward or reverse direction.

The company have produced a moat useful form on which can be recorded with a minimum of trouble the records provided each day by the odometer. This, in itself, will go a long way towards helping users to secure and maintain correct records of transportation costs.

SEVERAL new accessories figure in the vast range of equipment which is shown by this company, and those who are particularly concerned with safe delving will be interested in the safety signal mirror which serves the additional purpose of a direction indicator. The device is controlled from the

driving seat by means of a neat switch; when one section of the arrow, which is borne by the mirror, is illuminated the intention of the driver to turn to the right or to the left is indicated. For the slow or stop signal, two arrows are simultaneously illuminated by application of the foot brake. The signal is also conveyed to the front of the mirror and Can be clearly seen by oncoming traffic and point-duty constables. ANEW type of Solex carburetter which, although similar to previous types as regards its external characteristics, possesses one or two outstanding features, is given prominence on this stand. The throttle of this new instrument which is known as the M type, is of special design, and the auxiliary jet, instead of being in the nature, of a pilot, now functions throughout the full range of throttle movement.

The parts composing the latest Soles carburetter are most accessible, and the instrument is fitted with a filter and air strangler to ensure easy starting under all conditions.

SPECIALLOID, LTD. Stand 187 OPECIALLOM pistons are of regis tered design and the alloy of which they are composed will be slightly altered in the pistons to be marketed in the new season. Moreover, the company are also altering some of the methods of toatment which, we are told, effect improvements in actual use. In addition to this, they have a new method of finishing the Lands of the piston which ensures better results. These new features are in evidence on the range of pistons to he seen on this stand.

ON this stand is displayed a number of radiators which the company have constructed for some of the most promi

pent commercial-vehicle chassis manufacturers in the industry. All the tube plates in the company's-radiators are of brass, and, in their special design, a boss for each tube is provided. All tubes are solid-drawn brass or copper, and all the gills are soldered to the tube and doubletinned.

SPENBGROUGH ENGINEERING CO. Stand

FOR the first time this company are putting on the market, in conjunction with their Loudon representatives, the Blue Belle Transport Ltd., a new patent three-way tipping gear, of which an illustration is published on this page. This gear is constructed in a steel frame, mounted on two trunnions fitted to the chassis, and is designed in such a manner that should the chassis be distorted, owing to uneven ground, during unloading, the tipping gear does not bind and create friction, or interfere with the easy operation of the gearing. The gear is operated through a spur reduction on to a bevel drive, and the rotating bevel wheels lift the screws

through the centre of the wheels and thus the body is tipped. This is shown on the stand, together with a range of hand screw tipping wears, also two replacement cylinder Mocks.

NOW that considerable, attention is being paid to the development and use of chassis with low load-line, particularly for bus work, there is little question that the new frames of various sections for bases, which have been especially designed to meet these new conditions, will attract much interest on this stand. APART from solid tyres and giant pneumatics, driving chains anti sprockets, brake linings and a range of other equipment, Messrs. Swain have elected to give a prominent display with the Diehard compressor, the general construction of which can be akertained

from a picture on this page. This compressor compresses air to 2,000 lb. per sq. in, in three phases, each phase being water-cooled.

The type of cylinder which is used can be handled with convenience in so far as it is attached to a well-built trolley and can therefore, he wheeled with ease from place to place. It is claimed that one fully charged cylinder will inflate about 12 giant pneumatics, or 60 815 mm. by 105 rem. tyres from flat, before requiring recharging.

it is. clean and efficient. The garage grease pumps for Tecalemit or Alemite high-pressure systems are of all-round usefulness. This type of pump has a capacity for 17 lb. of lubricant and its working pressure is 4,000 lb. per sq. in. The machine, of which an illustration appears on this page, will force grease into the tightest bearings and, being mounted on wheels, it can conveniently be taken to any part of the garage or workshop where its use is needed. The Tecalemit gun, which is fitted with a rigid extension, enables inaccessible parts readily to be reached. THIS company have devoted much of their stand to a special display of Plymax, which is a steel-coated plywood, and examples of tills speciality are to be seen in the two van sides on the stand, one being built of steel-coated Plyiriax and the other of aluminium-coated Plymax. The company's display includes a number of Venesta plywood dashboards and lining boards. There is also a number of exhibits indicating the possibilities a the material in connection with dashboard, door, partition and other forms of construction.

INSTRUMENTS of importance which are exhibited here are the Proteetorneter and the Vacularm. The former is claimed to be something more than an air cleaner, for it excludes road-dust, sand, grit and dirt from the cartairetter and engine cylinders.

The Vacularm is an instrument which blows the horn when petrol is low and records the exact amount of petrol in the tank.

ALL those who have occasion to drive at night appreciate the difficulty of distinguishing the hand signals given by the driver of a big vehicle ahead, and Waydieator, Ltd, realizing this, have produced an adaptation of their signalling device which solves the problem, and examples of it are shown on the stand which they occupy. The original Waydicator made use of a hand with a pointing finger which, operated by a handle beside the driver, indicated the intention of the man at the wheel. The new invention places this hand over the rear light at the back of the vehicle, and when illuminated at night it is visible from a distance of 60 yds. The operation of the device is controlled as it was in its original form.

AS most of our readers are probably aware, this company specialize in the manufacture of piston rings, and claim to have a weekly output of over 45,000. All their, rings are manufactured under a patent process. There is a considerable number of supergauge ground rings on the stand, this being a type generally used for internalcombustion engines by those makers to whom expense is a secondary consideration to that of efficienCy.

Perlit is the new cast-iron which was shown by the company for the first time at the recent Motor Exhibition, and practical demonstrations of the comparative impact values of this material as against ordinary cast-iron are being given by the aid of a testing machine on the stand. Another exhibit is the -Vapour Oil heavy oil-burning device for adaptation on existing commercialvehicle engines.

THE Westinghouse system of power-braking is gaining considerable vogue on motor vehicles of all types, and it is noteworthy to recall that it is employed on the Karrier rigid six-wheeled bus which was described in our issue dated October 20th. TWO new lines have recently been introduced by this company, these being the Wefeo rigid non-drip oil pump And a patent Petrometer, and examples of bath appliances are to be seen. The former is, of course, intended for use on drums or barrels of oil, and it solves the problem of extracting the contents without any inconvenience or waste. The second instrument records the consumption of petrol and, incidentally, enables the contents of the tank to be obtained at any time in gallons and twentieth parts thereof. Other exhibits to be seen on this stand include the Bristol foot pump, which is made by Bristol Pneumatic Tools, Ltd.
