Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Five drivers employed by Pontefract-based Brian Yeardley Transport were fined a total of 2875, including costs, for tachograph and drivers' hours offences when they appeared before the Pontefract Magistrates.

Malcom Dale, of York was fined £80 for two offences of insufficient rest. I/avid Miller, of Doncaster, was fined £200

for two offences of failing to keep a tachograph record. Stephen Tilley, of Rotherham, was fined £200 for two similar offences. Bernard Newton, of Hull, was fined £160 for three offences of insufficient rest and one of excessive driving. Edward Taylor was lined £160 for four offences of insufficient rest. They were each ordered to pay £15 towards the costs of the prosecution.

Last month 11 other Yeard ley drivers were ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £1,380, after admitting a series of similar offences (CM 5-11 April).

Defending, Simon Moore said the drivers had been unsure about the weekly rest provisions. At one time it was possible for a driver to take his weekly rest at the beginning of one week and at the end of the next week. However, that was no longer the case.
