Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BECAUSE of continued opposition to its plans to expand by the National Bus Company, a Sussex independent has sold its vehicles and licences to NBC. In a statement explaining the move this week the company, John Dengate and Son Ltd of Rye, said expansion was vital to its future but every move in this direction was blocked by the local NBC subsidiary, Maidstone and District.

The statement blamed the expense of court battles for its demise and said that if it had been allowed to expand it would have continued to operate. The company's general manager, Mr C. G. Davie, told CM this week:

"If you can't beat 'em, you have to join 'em." The sale of vehicles and licences — for stage services in the Rye area — takes effect on Monday. The Dengate company will then go into voluntary liquidation.

Mr Davie's other company, Davie's Coaches (Rye) Ltd, is unaffected and will continue to operate tours.
