• "The controversial, and in many ways ill-conceived, Transport Bill, damaging as it will be to our industry and our transport customers when it becomes law, is perhaps most ominous as further evidence of conflict in society—the people wanting one thing and the Government imposing another". This was said by Sir George Harriman, chairmanelect of the British Leyland Motor Corporation, when he presented the Lord Wakefield Gold Medal Paper "The Motor Vehicle in Modern Society" to the Institute of the Motor Industry in London on Tuesday.
Sir George was presented with the gold medal by Mr. E. Eric Hughes of Castrol.
