Longline
Take an iconic truck cab from the Scania 4-Series, extend its sleeping compartment backwards by 1,300mm, put the bunk lengthways along the side wall, fit lots of cupboards, a sink and table, and what have you got? The Scania eXc (short for extended cab) concept artic was launched in 1992 at the IAA Show in Germany, and was relaunched a year later as a factory model called the Longline. Built to offer long-haul drivers improved interior accommodation, the success of the Longline was predicated on the simple premise that the Swedes could persuade the Brussels bureaucrats to allow longer artics, thereby making Longline a viable proposition. They didn’t; and the best sleeper cab ever built was restricted to running with short trailers, before it was eventually dropped from Scania’s tractor line-up when the R-Series emerged.
