Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE 00,000 salary being offered for the post of director-general of Tyne and Wear PTE is an insult to the unemployed in the North, a Tory MP has claimed.

Newcastle Central MP Piers Merchant said the post, which has been vacant for 15 months, should be abolished as it was unnecessary.

The advertisement carried in CM last week says the PTE is a E100m business.

Mr Merchant said that at a time when the Government was trying to control spending, and the PTE itself was under threat, now was not the time to fill the job.

Attacking the £27,225-£30,075 salary range Mr Merchant added: "It is an insult to the thousands of people that are on the dole and all the thousands more that are earning a low wage."
