A JOURNALIST on The Guardian with wide experience of public policy issues has been proposed as a part-time London Transport board member.

John Palmer, currently on secondment to the Greater London Enterprise Board, has orked as chief economic leader riter, business editor and deputy financial editor for The Guardian before being appoined European editor.

He is being proposed by reater London Council transort committee chairman Dave etzel, who said: "John Palmer as the necessary broad experence and knowledge of industial, commercial, business and inancial matters to enable him o make a first-class contribution o the running of a major public • ody like London Transport."

Mr Palmer's name has been ut forward to LT chairman and hief executive Dr Keith Bright. London Transport had no omment to make on the propoal, but its management admits rivately to friction caused by e appointment of other GLCupported part-time members.
