Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Surely the easiest way in which most LDoY entrants could be sure of saving mariy penalty points would be to read the Highway Code two or three times during competition week, Those who do so are already one up. The point illustrates the difference between knowing what to do—and at the Oxford round many drivers incurred no penalty points at all on the road route—and knowing what to say.

Class F emphasizes this. The winner lost no points on the road route, but 58 on the Highway Code; the second man lost 21 on the route and 81 on the Code. Just as well for them that they were not competing in Class G. Here a commendable figure of 12 drivers lost none on the route, and on the Code points lost ranged from only five to a mere 47. In Class H 15 drivers incurred no route points—including one man who lost 70 on the Code.

The round was held at Pressed Steel Fisher Ltd, Cowley, there being 96 entrants —a considerable drop from the numbers in recent years which have been about 150, and partly attributable to a new venue having been started at Bristol. And this drop. in fact, was much appreciated, assisting the smooth administration to provide a tea break before the presentation by the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Aid M. Maclagan.

The overall winner was a young man— A. R. Davies—entering only his second Oxford round; an old friend among the class winners was B. A. Absolom—"I've won 10 times but been disqualified twice," he said.
