FOUNDED in 1873, the fiftieth year of the' Institution of Municipal and County Engineers has now been completed. An ever-increasinl activity and membership (now over 3,516) rhow the usefulness and vigour of the Institution. Many important. papers have been read and published during the last session; arid local authorities are becoming increasingly appreciativeof the value of these papers and' thediscussions which follow them.

The annual general meeting was held at Leeds on Wednesday last, under the chairmanship of Mr. E. J. Mord, 31.I.3Iech.E., the outgoing -president, who has done so 'much work: in furthering.,the aims' ofthe Institution during the past session. This was fel-lowed by the installation ofthe new president, Mr. W. T. Lancashir, M.Inst.C.F,.., the city engineer of Leeds. In the afternoon the member', visited Templenewsorn and Roundhay Parks, accompanied loy. city officials and proceeding by chars-a-banes from the TOWII Hall.

On the following day an..address was given by Sir Henry P. .A..laybiary, followed by discussions .on several interesting papers by members of the Institution. Visits were arranged to various centres of interest, inclmidin the engineering -departments-. of Leech University and the works of John Fowler and Co. (Leeds), Ltd., and Thomas Green and' .Sons, Ltd. The. City of -Leeds sewage works and reservoirs were also inspected.
