MODE'S TESTED/ PUBLISH ED: BISTAR 11 March 2004 Based on Renault's current Kangoo and significantly lighter than several of Its rivals, the Kubstar has remained in the background when it comes to sales. But this lack of interest is, on the whole, unjustified for a little van that is a cinch to drive and live with.

Starting with its spirited 1.5litre engine (available in 60, 70 and 85hp ratings), which matches well to the slick gearshift and foolproof chassis, the little Nissan is ideal for urban work where compact dimensions and vehicle manoeuvrability are key requirements. The lack of a bulkhead reduces the appeal once you hit the open road and although its a composed performer through the bends the Nissan Ku bistar doesn't feel as unshakeable as some of its heavier rivals do on the motorway.

And while the interior is practically laid out, space is a little tight for those of us less vertically challenged.
