Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Managing and costing

NOW established as an annual event, the appearance of David Lowe's Transport Manager's Handbook is this year at the enhanced price of £4.95, For good measure, tachographs and the Lighting Regulations have been added.

David Lowe needs no introduction to regular readers of CM and if this method is your choice of keeping up to date with legislation from among the similar publications available, then you will welcome this latest edition. However, as has been pointed outwhen reviewing other books of this nature, events often overtake the authors between preparation and publication.

This is apparent from the remarks about the Road Traffic Act 1974, particularly in relation to the introduction of a national type-approval scheme for tachographs

which was, in fact, omitted from the final version of the Act.

Also by the same author is Costing and Pricing Goods Vehicle Qperations price

£4.95. ,

Here can be found the whole gamut of costing, including the reasons for posting, how to do it and how to work out rates, delivery costs and profits. Although some of the contents might be considered too deep for the average haulier — discounted cash flows for instance belong more to the accountant and economist there is much useful information as well.

Both books are published by Kogan Page Ltd, 116a Pentonville Road, London Ni 9JN, and both cost £5.25 (to include postage and packing) direct from the publisher.
