Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

justin.stanton@rbi.co.uk IN AN INDUSTRY irst, Iveco is guaranteeing operators the 4% fuel saving claim it makes for the Ecostralis.

The Ecostralis is itted with a suite of eficiency measures. In German trials it achieved a 7.32% fuel saving compared with a standard Stralis (CM 20 January).

Speaking last month, Iveco UK MD Henk van Leuven said: “What can we do to prove that we believe in this fantastic product? Iveco UK will guarantee, in writing, signed in blood, a 4% fuel eficiency – guaranteed against all makes.” While joking about the blood, van Leuven is serious about the guarantee, but there are caveats: ● The 4% saving guarantee will be measured against the combined average performance of an operator’s heavy truck leet.

● To qualify, the operator’s leet must spend at least 55% of its working day on motorways and dual carriageways; and electronic fuel consumption measuring devices, or a fuel card service that provides precise fuel usage data, must be used.

● Operators who meet these criteria will have to answer a questionnaire so Iveco can build a detailed picture of the leet proile.

Van Leuven expects 30% of operators to meet the criteria, and 90% of those to be approved. All Ecostralis trucks sold with the guarantee must be supplied on a ixed cost, three-year R&M package.

Should an operator fail to realise the 4% saving after three years, Iveco will refund them the difference. For example, if an operator only realises 3%, Iveco will refund the 1% using an average nationwide fuel price and that leet’s average mpg.
