PAY NEGOTIATORS for the Scottish hire-and-reward sector have failed to reach agreement during their first full meeting in four years.
The Transport & General Workers Union presented a 10-point list of demands which includes 25 days' holiday after five years' service., final-salary pensions and a pay increase to £10/hr.
The current rate of £7/hr dates back four years when the Scottish Joint Industrial Council (MC) negotiated a series of staged annual increases. Pat Glancey, regional manager for the Road Haulage Association, says the JIC is due to hold a further meeting by the beginning of March: "They [the T&G] have presented a list of aspirations and they have been rejected.A further meeting will he arranged once both sides have had full consideration of the claim and the implications of the Working Time Directive."
The West Midlands J1C has agreed a £10/hr deal, but it will be phased in over four years (CM 13 January).
