Narrow-track Tractor

"CULL details are now available of the new vine...12 yard tractor of Case manufacture, which is being introduced into this country by Associated Manufacturers' Co. (London), Ltd., 46-48, Wharf dale Road, London, N.J. The first model has recently been imported.

It has a rear track of 3 ft. 7 ins., measured to the outer edge of each wheel, and it sells at the same price as the model C full-width tractor, namely, £248, including full equipment and road bands, carriage paid. Incidentally, it may be mentioned that the larger model L tractor is priced at £348.

The vineyard machine is similar in practically every respect to the C-type tractor, although the weight is 30 cwt., as against 33 cwt. for the wider machine. The engine is of the fouiseylindered overhead-valve variety, longitudinally placed, the bore being 31 ins, and the stroke 5e ins. It has a normal speed of 1,100 r.p.m. and a feature of it is that renewable cylinder sleeves are fitted. The gearbox provides three forward speeds and one reverse, the final stage of the transmission being by hardened roller chains from sprockets on the differential shafts to the divided back axle. The transmission is completely enclosed.

As regards power, the C type and the new vineyard model are claimed to pull a two-row or fourrow cultivator, or a two-bottom or three-bottom 14-in. plough, depending, of course, upon soil conditions. The three forward gear ratios give speeds of 2.63,375 and 5.14 m.p.h. The belt pulley is 101 ins. in diameter and 61 ins, in width. Its speed is 973 r.p.m., this giving a belt speed of 2,600 ft. per minute. Ignition is by high-tension magneto, with impulse coupling for easy starting, and the engine has pressure lubrication. The machine will run on either paraffin or petrol and it is equipped with an oil-type air cleaner.
