introduced — just two months after the company announced extra weekend crossings to meet increased autumn and winter demand.

Newly-scheduled Monday to Saturday day sailings mean there are now two crossings from each port seven days a week.

Finland groupage

A NEW weekly container groupage service for UK exporters to Finland has been introduced by freight forwarders Thomas Meadows and Co Ltd.

The service is designed to minimise the cost of shipping to western Finland in particular.

It will operate from London via scheduled ro-ro ferry services between Felixstowe and Turku, south-west Finland, much more direct than going via Helsinki.

New stops

CONTAINER-LLOYD intermodal lines are to extend their "automobile" service from New York to Tehran, Iran, to cover Baghdad, Kuwait, Dammam, Dubai and Jeddah.

The service will involve a transfer of vessels in Europe, and the cars will arrive, in the Middle East via ro-ro vessels.

Fast freight

A DAILY express service from Birmingham and London to Dublin is now being operated by Unifast International from the company's depots at Sparkbrook, Birmingham 12, and Ratcliffe Cross, London El.

Door to door times will be directly comparable to air freight. Prices are based on 10p per kg (with a £5 minimum), reducing 7p for 1000kg or above.

Check-in times are 12.00 (London) and 16.00 (Birmingham) with an 08.00 arrival in Dublin the following day.
