Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT IS normal practice in the Northern Traffic Area for the hgN licences of drivers convicted and disqualified before magistrate: to be suspended for a further month after the ordinary drivini licence is restored.

This is to ensure they get ordinary driving experience befor( returning to heavy vehicles and is for the safety of the public.

Mr Ronald Taylor, of Co Durham, appealed against thc additional suspension last week at Newcastle upon Tyne.

He said that following a conviction for drinking and driving II( was disqualified from driving for 12 months. Since then he hac been unemployed and had been hoping to get his hgv licenc( back on December 29, the date on which his ordinary licenc( would be returned.

The LA, Mr B. J. Foster, pointed out that Mr Taylor had been E Class I driver and it was essential he should not go back on th( road and immediately drive heavy vehicles after his long lay-off Mr Taylor said that during his suspension he had kept hi hand in by driving heavy vehicles on the farm of a friend.

The LA said that in these circumstances the one mondadditional suspension would be waived and the hgv licenc( restored at the same time as the ordinary one.
