TYNE and Wear PTE's three Volvo Ailsa double-deckers have been sold to a West Yorkshire independent operator for school contracts and private hires.
Independent Coachways of Horsforth, near Leeds has bought. them as replacements for three of its five older Leyland Atlanteans and says it will take another two Ailsas if they become available.
The company says the vehicles, which were new in 1974, will modernise its fleet and that they will fit in with its Volvo F88 lorr fleet.
Tyne and Wear says it was paid "a good price" for the pre-production Ailsas, which are the only examples fitted with hydraulic brakes.
