Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Complaints about the conditions of bus services in the South Shields area of the Tyneside PIE have been made by the employees there. A union statement claims that buses that should have been replaced are still in operation, services have been curtailed, maintenance staff reduced, office staff had been cut by a quarter and stand-by arrangements for relief services were not adequate.

The secretary of the local section of the Transport and General Workers' Union said South Shields had been pushed into a corner and forgotten by the PTE. The management was top heavy with "more chiefs than Indians".

A spokesman for the PTE told CM this week that it was investigating the allegations concerning the condition of buses operated in South Shields.
