Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Pallet network Pall-Ex is pressing ahead with European expansion and is planning to launch several new ventures over the coming months.

April will see the launch of Pall-Ex Iberia covering Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands, thanks loan agreement with Spanish logistics firm Trans European Transport.

This will be followed by the launch of a Benelux operation.

May will see the start of a German service. Alan Cramley, sales and marketing manager at Pall-Ex, says the network is considering several options but is seeking "an organisation that can give the same level of ser vice that we offer in the LJK."

The company is considering several options, but one operator that looks well placed to deal with Pall-Ex is German haulier Moeller International Spedition. The Dinslaken-based haulier is part of German pallet and groupage network Online Systemlogistik, and already offers German distribution for several UK hauliers, not least Pall-Ex member TD Williams.

Boss Wotfgang Muller is keen to start working with the UK network. He says: 'I've told them I will take on some of the risk for the first few months; I want to get this started, as the best way of selling it to the network is if they see how well it works.

"Even if we have small volumes initially, we will still run the trunk between the UK and Germany just to convince the Pall-Ex members that they will find an excellent service here," he says.

Muller says he has made a "positive offer" to Pall-Ex and is waiting for its reply.

Pall-Ex is also in discussions with French haulage giant Norbert Dentressangle in a bid to secure coverage of France for the network.

This week, Pall-Ex opened its new £10m purpose-built hub at Ellistown, Leicestershire.
