Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Steering

The Steering Backlash Indicator introduced by V. L. Churchill allows rapid checks to be made of the free play in c.v. steering wheels of 15in, to 24in. diameter; it is used for this purpose in MoT testing stations. The gauge is attached to the inside of the steering wheel by means of specially shaped feet and held firmly in position by the main spring. This method of fixing avoids marking or damaging the wheel.

Operation is extremely simple, and direct readings in inches are obtained from the scale which is also colour-coded to indicate the limit of the MoT requirements.

Diameter scale plates are provided on each side of the tool to facilitate measurement of the steering wheel diameter.

Made by: V. L. Churchill and Co. Ltd., PO Box No. 3, London Road, Daventry, Northants. Price: £22 10s Od.
