• Former civil servant Sir Richard Way, who is to be head of London Transport from the beginning of next year, will receive a salary of £15,000 a year, the Greater London Council announced this week. This is £2,000 more than that of the present chairman of the London Transport Executive, Sir Maurice Holmes, Sir Richard will be the first chairman of the executive after the GLC takes over its responsibilities.
• Plans to introduce one-man double-deck buses and a productivity bonus scheme have been approved by bus crews at Nottingham. Representatives of the 1,250 platform staff have voted in favour of one-man buses being introduced from January 4 after an assurance that the first 100 will not cause redundancy.
