have finalised their £350m agreement to develop and produce a new family of vans (CM 26 October 1989). It will eventually replace both the Renault Master and part of the Trafic ranges, and the ageing Leyland Daf 200/400 Series in the 2.5-4.2-tonnes GVW range.

Renault may supply some engines, along with other as yet unspecified manufacturers, and the vans will be produced by Leyland Daf at Birmingham and Renault at BaliIly. Production is expected to be around 90,000 units a year, with Renault producing 50,000 and Leyland Daf 40,000. Both companies will market the new vehicles through their existing distribution networks.

Leyland Daf currently produces 24,000 vans a year and Renault 45,000. The joint operation will be overseen by a new UK-based private limited company, Van Technology, with Daf and Renault taking a 50/50 share.
