COMPETENCE MANUAL • Kogan Page has just p lished the fifth edition of Dai Lowe's book A Study Manue of Professional Competence Road Transport Managemen, A good proportion of the ir formation is to be found in Lowe's excellent Transport Manager's Handbook, but thf study manual is specifically fc those taking the Certificate o Professional Competence examinations. It is therefore structured to follow the CPC syllabus.

Both national and international HGV CPC examination are covered; it does not include the PSV CPC requirements. Each chapter is concluded by sample questiof drawn from past papers.

The previous edition was published in 1984; the publisher has found it necessary make only very few revisions to the new edition. New are details on items such as antispray legislation and the use reversing alarms.

The sample questions are changed, too. Lowe alludes to the changes in EEC drivers' hours due this September but the publication deadline obviously prohibited any details.

In all, there are 371 pages the new edition, just six mon than in the previous one. The price is up from 214.50 to 215.50; it is still a sound inve ment for CPC candidates.
